How counselling works
A look inside your first session
Not knowing what happens can be the hardest part. Here's a gentle walk through it, so it feels a little more familiar before you arrive.
Settling in
If we meet in person, there's free parking and a quiet, private room — no busy waiting area. Online or by phone, I'll send a simple link or call you at the agreed time. However we meet, you can take a moment to settle before we begin.
What you share stays with us
I'll explain confidentiality clearly at the start — what it means and the rare, specific limits to it. Nothing is shared without you knowing. This is your space, held with care and within the BACP ethical framework.
We go at your pace
There's no script and nothing you have to get right. We'll talk a little about what's brought you here and what you're hoping for — but only as much as feels comfortable. Quiet moments are completely okay.
You decide what's next
At the end, there's no pressure to commit. If it feels helpful, we can arrange a regular weekly time. If it doesn't feel like the right fit, that's genuinely fine — and I'm happy to suggest other options.
What you can count on
No pressure, ever
The first conversation is free and there's no obligation to continue. You decide what feels right, in your own time.
Led by you
There's no script and no agenda. We follow what matters to you, and you set the pace from the very first session.
A steady, regular space
Most people meet weekly at the same time. That rhythm helps build the trust and safety that makes the work possible.
Confidential & ethical
Everything is held in confidence within the BACP framework. I'll always be clear about the rare limits to that.
Start with a free, friendly conversation
A relaxed 20-minute chat with no obligation. We'll talk about what's on your mind, you can ask anything, and together we'll see whether it feels like a good fit. That's all — no pressure to book anything more.
